Designed by Mies van der Rohe for the 1930 Tugendhat Villa in Brno, Czech Republic. The chair was used in Grete Tugendhat's bedroom upholstered in cherry red leather. The chair was later used in the Philip Johnson-designed Four Seasons restaurant in New York upholstered in dark blue silk.
Copy watch Mies van der Rohe granted Knoll the exclusive rights to manufacture his furniture in 1953. Chrome plated, high carbon steel is used for the frame. KnollStudio logo and Mies van der Rohe's signature are stamped on the base of the frame.
