The Platner Coffee Table is a real midcentury design icon, part of the Platner Collection designed by Warren Platner for Knoll in 1966. It is available in two sizes, and in a  wide range of table tops, including glass and marble. The table is also available in a stunning 18k gold-plated version.

Warren Platner studied architecture at Cornell University. Following his work with legendary designers Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen and I. M. Pei, he immersed himself in the creation of steel wire furniture, devising the method and tooling to produce the lounge chair in the line as well. Notable among his residential and commercial projects are the Georg Jensen Design Center and the Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Center, both in New York City.

The Platner Collection, which has been in continuous production by Knoll since its launch in 1966, recently had an update with the steel now being produced in a dark bronze finish as well as the original nickel plating. Bronze glass and marble have been added to the range of top finishes.
