The Eames Lobby Chair, which is similar in structural principle to the famous Lounge Chair, is known for its undeniable comfort. This comfort derives from the use of three upholstered sections all connected together by the elegant metal framework which becomes the chairs noticeably sleek feature. The Lobby Chair, originally designed in 1960, was produced for the Rockefeller Centre in New York which undoubtedly encouraged the chairs wide popularity. Not only does this Eames classic aesthetically enhance a room, it offers a radiance of comfort.
The Lobby Chair received much media coverage when it was requested by chess champion Bobby Fischer in his match against Boris Spassky in 1972, due to the comfort of the chair compared to the wooden ones provided. After insisting on equal rights Spassky was then provided with a Lobby Chair too, refusing to play until it was received. In the UK the Lobby Chair is also famous for its use on broadcaster / journalist Michael Parkinsons TV series Parkinson.
The Lobby chair is also available on glides with a four-star base; known as the ES108 and ES105. The ES105 is a lower, wider option providing generous comfort.
