Florence Schust married the charismatic businessman Hans Knoll in 1946, and they formed Knoll Associates. As well as commissioning furniture from her Cranbrook colleagues, Florence designed her own furniture, modestly calling it the fill-in pieces that nobody else was doing. The simple, elegant design of her fill-in pieces has allowed them to stand the test of time.
